Christmas Card Poll

So I'm going to mention the C word again.

A couple of years ago, I sent out Christmas cards to as many of my readers as I could - I loved doing it - it was a way of thanking people who had bought copies of my books and the many who had told me they had enjoyed them. But then last year I looked at my Christmas Card fund and thought that I could do something really useful with it.

So instead of cards, I bought gifts in my readers' names - wonderful gifts like the cost of cataract operations for children who would otherwise not be able to see. 3 children benefitted from that - I posted pictures of them in March this year.

So this year I'm going to do that again, but this time I'd like you all to be involved. After all, without my readers who buy my books, I wouldn't be able to afford to do this so much. So I've tried to set up a poll of possible gifts (source from Oxfam Unwrapped) and I'd like you to help me choose what I'm going to give this year. (if the poll is a bit messy - it's the first one I've ever done so I hope it works!)

These gifts aren't mutually exclusive. After all, those 100 school dinners cost only £6!! So vote for your choice and I'll send as many gifts as I can from the Card Fund

So what would you like me to send in your name

Important - okay, it seems that this poll doesn't work - so use it to view your choices and then click here to go to the version that does!

What a lovely idea Kate! I voted for caring for an orphan, but I used the other poll because the one on the blog didn't work.

Thanks Sue - your input helps - I've added a note on the blog to link to the poll that does work until I can get things sorted out better. It's registered your vote anyway

Fantastic idea Kate. I voted for the teacher thinking of what a brilliant teacher you are :)

Kate, this is a brilliant idea and very generous of you. I've been using Good Gifts for a while now, which is a similar thing (www.goodgifts.org) and I think doing something such as you suggest is tremendous. I've placed my vote!

Love,
Mags

What a great idea Kate - I agree it's much better to put not only Xmas card money towards something far more worthwhile but also save trees. I voted twice! Care for an orphan and water for a farm.

What a wonderful, wonderful idea and such a Kate Walker thing to do :-)

I voted for the medicine and safe water. I know how important medicine is (I wouldn't be alive without it) but it's useless without clean water. But there were so many options that any of them would really be fine by me :-)

Well, as a health worker myself, guess which one I voted for! lol

This is a great idea Kate! What a difficult choice. I finally vote for the medicines for a village, but any of the choices would be very helpful and generous.

I struggled with my poll too, Kate. It worked in the end, but honestly I don't know how.

I'm still mulling the Oxfam catalogue to see where my CC money goes this year. Trees, definitely. I'm tempted by the condoms...

Hi Kate,
I love your idea for christmas but my it wouldn't let me post answer. I think that you should . I'm from KY and I think that you should give to a shelter because I had a friends who end up there from abuse. I just stop by from RJ.

I chose the shelter because I have a friend who had to use it. I from KY and stop by from Delurking days.

Thank you all for voting - I'm glad you think this is worth doing. I have to admit it gives me a lot more personal satisfaction than sending cards that will be in the bin or (hopefully) being recycled within a month after I've sent them

I love the idea of being able to put the oney to really good use
